Outstanding Performances Highlight '08 Classic
NEW ORLEANS - The 2008 All State Sugar Bowl Track & Field Classic came to a close Saturday afternoon. The two-day meet offered up some fantastic performances by some of the elite high school talent from across the country.
Cordova High's Dinesha Bean, winner of the 200, 400 and 100 meter hurdles was named the Girls Track Performer
Friday's results saw two meet records fall as Ilycia Bell of Cordova High School (Tennessee) won the girls discus throw with a toss of 135'11". Bell broke a minutes old record as Jessie Harrison of Houston High School initially set the discus throw record on the final attempt of the prelims (128'8") two throws before Bell's new meet record. The other record to fall was also a field event, this time the boy’s shot put. Mark Barron of St. Paul's Episcopal broke the 13-year old shot put record after he heaved the shot 56'4.5". Barron's record setting throw came while he was also in the middle of long jumping. He finished 12th in the long jump (20'2") and also competed in the triple jump (41'6").
